I had such great fun at the 15 Queen Street Sumi Ink Club run by illustrator Rob Lock at 15 Queen Street, Colchester in December. Natasha Newton's paintings have a quality of tranquility about them.  Using a carefully limited palette, Natasha creates images of birds and the night sky in a rural landscape. On a recent visit to the local art supplies store I was unable to resist buying paper for drawing.  I chose simple cartridge paper with a smooth surface (lovely, although still a long way second to beautiful Bristol Board!). I am making my 100 bookmarks for Bookmarks IX. This is a great project run by book artist Sarah Bodman at the University of West England. Each artist creates 100 bookmarks which then get left in libraries around the world for readers to take - thus infiltrating the system and providing small pieces of quality artworks for many people. I felt uplifted - despite the downpour at the end of the day on Saturday - by the positive feedback from customers and fellow creatives at the Fayre.  I was there..... Amongst the new creative friends I've met Katie, event organiser, graphic designer and seller of vintage clothes and Tanya of Frivolous Fancies, whose cupcakes were a true work of pastel coloured and sculptural art.

A poster has appeared on the London rail networks depicting key people from the world of pop music in the most minimalist and rectangular way.  It's fabulous!  I cannot find any information about the designer :-( The poster links to a British Music Experience competition too FACE THE MUSIC

Folding, cutting, tearing, ripping, scoring. Paper is a joy to manipulate and I am inspired by many paper engineers as I have mentioned in previous posts.
